Bugle Rock Park

BUGLE ROCK PARK (late 16th Century)is in Basavanagudi area and houses a massive rock with an assessed age of 3,000 million years which the then-Mysore Geological Society classified as ‘peninsular gneiss’, a geological parlance denoting the antiquity of rock formation. It was from a watch tower on this rock that a torch was held and a bugle blown, during the days of monarchy to warn the sepoys and citizens of any impending danger or intruders. Hence, the name ‘Bugle Rock’ . Kempe Gowda II who ruled from 1585 is said to have built the watch tower. Now we find around it, a beautifully landscaped park with murals of notable Kannadigas, in recognition of their contributions. The Bugle Rock Park which is spread over 16 acres,is a home for fruit bats which is listed in IUCN Red-list of threatened species and overlooks the famous Bull Temple.
